Return to Rochester - We have only been able to consider people who live within the ME1 and ME2 catchment area as almshouse residents. Following interest from a number of people living outside our catchment area who wished to move back to Rochester which we were unable to consider, Trustees decided that we ought to be able to help some of these people move back to be near their families and friends. We published a Public Notice in the local paper and drew residents' attention to the plan to extend our entry criteria. Nobody had an opinion, either positive or negative that they let us know about. We continued with our application to the Charity Commission and eventually the Charity Commission approved the change to our almshouse entry criteria. First priority will still be given to residents of ME1 and ME2. However consideration can now be given to applicants who do not, at the point of application live within those postcode areas but who do wish to return to Rochester to be with friends and family. All other entry criteria remain unchanged.
